Associations everywhere are asking how to turn conversations about AI into real impact. At Betty...
A year ago, I joined Betty AI with a simple but ambitious goal: to help associations unlock new ways to engage, serve, and grow through conversational AI. What I didn’t fully anticipate was just how much learning this year would bring. Every day has been a crash course — stepping into a new role, in a rapidly evolving space, while also navigating life as a first-time mom to an almost two-year-old. (And let me tell you, the toddler stage, even in its early days, is no joke!)
It’s been an adventure — at times a roller coaster — but one I wouldn’t trade for anything. Looking back, I’m grateful for the opportunities, the lessons, and most of all, the people — our customers, their members, my colleagues, and the broader community of association professionals who continue to inspire what’s possible.
Highlights From the Past Year
Like any roller coaster, the highs stand out most. Partnering with over 100 associations to launch and grow their Bettys has been a thrill — each one unique, each one reflecting the needs of its members and the industries they serve.
What’s amazed me most is the creativity and innovation in how associations are using Betty to amplify what makes associations so powerful in the first place: their knowledge and their connections. I’ve seen Betty make events and membership benefits stickier, serve as a study buddy that extends learning, and answer highly technical as well as everyday questions. She’s helping members access knowledge more easily, uncover new connections, and even find the right professionals or service providers to help them solve challenges. And through the power of AI, Betty turns those insights into action faster. These creative use cases show how Betty doesn’t just provide answers — she helps associations deliver on their core mission of making knowledge more accessible and communities more connected.
And perhaps the best part of all has been riding this journey alongside my colleagues — an amazing team at Betty AI who support our customers, support Betty, and support one another. They encourage, challenge, and inspire me daily, and they make every high point even more meaningful.
Lessons Learned
If this year has taught me anything, it’s that success with AI in associations comes down to a few core truths:
- Start with the user — your members. The most impactful deployments are always designed around their journey. AI like Betty is at its best when it can reflect the unique needs and challenges of members and the industries they serve, delivering truly personalized experiences and outputs.
- Treat Betty like a teammate. Associations hold some of the most comprehensive bodies of knowledge anywhere, but unlocking that value takes intentionality. Just as you would train and coach a new staff member, your AI assistant needs ongoing support, refinement, and guidance. And just like us, Betty never stops learning — she gets better and better with time, coaching, and practice.
- Use insights and gaps as opportunities. Iteration isn’t just about fine-tuning responses — it’s about uncovering what matters most to your audiences. Every interaction highlights relevance, and unanswered questions expose opportunities for new learnings. Each “Betty doesn’t know… yet” moment is a chance to re-engage, celebrate improvements, and show members the progress being made. Sometimes that means adding a new content source, other times it sparks collaboration with a subject matter expert or even the start of a new partnership. Gaps aren’t failures; they’re stepping stones to stronger knowledge, deeper trust, and broader community engagement.
Looking Ahead
As I look to year two, I see even more opportunities to build on what we’ve learned. Momentum is growing, and each deployment, conversation, and community exchange only accelerates what’s possible. The future will be about scaling impact: expanding Betty’s reach across more associations, embedding her deeper into daily workflows, and unlocking new opportunities for members and staff alike.
Just as important, Betty will continue to grow through what she doesn’t know… yet. Each unanswered question is an opening — a chance to strengthen her knowledge base, bring in new voices, and even create partnerships with subject matter experts and industry leaders. These are the moments where learning happens, not just for Betty, but for associations and their networks too.
That’s what excites me most about what’s ahead: continuing to shape Betty together with our customers, their members, and the wider communities they serve — so she reflects the best of what associations already do so well: connect, collaborate, and grow.
Gratitude
To the members who’ve engaged with Betty, the customers who’ve trusted us, the internal teams who’ve collaborated every step of the way, and the industry professionals who continue to push the conversation forward — thank you. You’ve made this first year unforgettable, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.
And to my amazing team at Betty AI — thank you for supporting me, encouraging me, challenging me, and, most of all, for being the best humans I could imagine going on this crazy ride with. I feel lucky every day to work alongside you.
Here’s to year two: scaling impact, together.
